Historically called 'Keralam', this state in South India is located on the Malabar Coast. The chief language of the state is Malayalam while the capital city is Thiruvananthapuram. Formed in 1956, Kerala has the distinction of being the state with the highest literacy rate in India. Kerala is the 13th largest state in the country by population.
